Jammu division

The Jammu division ( ; Dogri pronunciation: [dʒəmːuː]) is a revenue and administrative division of the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. It is bordered by the Kashmir division to the north. It consists of the districts of Jammu, Doda, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur and Samba. Most of the land is hilly or mountainous, traversed by the ranges of the Himalayas, with the Sivalik Hills in the west and south, the middle Himalayan Pir Panjal Range (which separates Jammu from the Kashmir Valley) in the middle, and the Great Himalayas in the east delineating the border with Ladakh. Its principal rivers are the Chenab, Tawi and Ravi. Jammu city is the largest city in Jammu and the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It is also known as "City of Temples" as it has many temples and shrines, with shikhars dotting the city's skyline. Home to some of the most revered Hindu temples, such as Vaishno Devi, Jammu is a major pilgrimage centre for Hindus. A majority of Jammu's population practices Hinduism, while Islam and Sikhism enjoy a strong cultural heritage in the region.
