Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Deterrence, Chemical, and Biological Defense Policy and Programs

The assistant secretary of defense for nuclear deterrence, chemical, and biological defense policy and programs, or ASD (ND-CBD), is the principal adviser to the secretary of defense, the deputy secretary of defense, and the under secretaries of defense for acquisition and sustainment and policy, on policy and plans for nuclear, chemical, and biological defense programs. The post has previously held the following names: the assistant to the secretary of defense for atomic energy, or ATSD (AE); the assistant to the secretary of defense for nuclear and chemical and biological defense programs, or ATSD (NCB); and the assistant secretary of defense for nuclear, chemical, and biological defense programs, or ASD (NCB). The current assistant secretary of defense (nuclear deterrence, chemical, and biological defense policy and programs) is Robert Kadlec.
