Bury (, ) is a market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England. It lies on the river Irwell, 5 miles (8 km) east of Bolton, 6 miles (9.7 km) south-west of Rochdale and 8 miles (12.9 km) north-west of Manchester. The town had a population of 81,101 in 2021, while the wider borough was 193,846. The town is part of the historic county of Lancashire, and has been a part of the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester since 1974. Bury emerged in the Industrial Revolution as a mill town manufacturing textiles. The town is known for the open-air Bury Market and black pudding, the traditional local dish. Bury is home to the historic and successful football club Bury F.C. Former prime minister, Sir Robert Peel, was born here.
