Ancient World
Ancient Estonia is the prehistoric period in the history of Estonia that concerns the emergence of human settlement in the area of what is now modern-day Estonia. It follows the period in the history of Estonia from the middle of the 8th millennium BC (around 8000 BC) until the conquest and subjugation of the local Finnic tribes in the first quarter of the until the 13th century during the Teutonic and Danish Northern Crusades during the Middle Ages. The prehistory of Estonia is divided into the Middle Stone Age (9600–3900 BC), New Stone Age (3900–1800 BC), Bronze Age (1800–500 BC), and Iron Age (500 BC – 13th century), and these in turn into sub-periods.
